The original mall in Palanca was destroyed, in its entirety by a fire in July 2014. During a strenuous period of 3 ½ months, the 14 500m2 building was demolished, site works were concluded and the site was handed over mid November 2014 for the construction of a new 11 500 retail centre housing the largest Shoprite store ever constructed in Angola.
The corner site is located on one of the busiest road intersections in Luanda, which called for and L – shaped strip mall allowing maximum exposure to passing traffic from two sides. The centre comprises of an anchor unit of approximately 7000m2 which includes a butchery, bakery, deli and fish departments, trading area, bulk store and staff facilities. The anchor unit is supported by numerous line shops including banks, a pharmacy, food outlets, clothing departments, and various smaller line shops catering for local tenants.
The centre re-opened in March 2016, 20 months after the devastating fire and is currently the most successful Shoprite in Angola.
